Ethical Sourcing
The factories we use are regularly audited by various organisations ensuring the agreed code of conduct is met and followed. Some of these include:
- Worldwide Responsibility Accredited Protection (WRAP)
- China Quality Certification Centre (CQC)
- The Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI)
Regular audits ensure and uphold the following:
- Fair workplace standards
- Local laws and workplace regulations which encompass human resources management
- Health and safety
- Environmental practices
- Legal compliance including import/export and customs compliance and security standards
The School Bag Company visits all new factories before placing any orders and try to regularly visit our existing suppliers. This allows us to review any issues requiring attention and compliance for future audits.
EU REACH Standards
PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) has traditionally contained phthalates, which have been used worldwide to make plastic products soft and pliable for more than 50 years. Products that have been known to contain phthalates include vinyl flooring, plastic toys, baby products, medical products, clothing, footwear, bags and even nail polish.
To date there is no conclusive scientific evidence to suggest that low exposure to phthalates poses any risk to humans. However, all of our Performance range nylon is produced using a phthalate-free backing. This allows us to comply with REACH standards. REACH is the European Community Regulation on Chemicals and their safe use, so you can be sure that our fabrics are produced ethically and under the strictest of governance. We have made this decision in line with our corporate social responsibility policy and to ensure we are acting in accordance with the high expectations that the market has come to expect from Marathon.
Eco-Friendly
In commitment to preserving the planet for our future, we have undertaken many initiatives to reduce our environmental impact. These include:
- Biodegradable packaging where possible
- Recycling our cardboard boxes and waste paper
- Responsible disposing of IT hardware
